Centering Everything Around Jesus

Jesus is the foundation of everything we believe and do. Our goal is to help people build a personal relationship with Him through teaching, worship, and community. We want everyone to experience the life-changing grace, truth, and love that comes from walking with Jesus daily. No matter your story, Jesus welcomes you.

    Our Story

The word Akouo (ä-kü’-o) is Greek (ἀκούω) and translates “to listen.” Every time any form of the word “listen” is used in the New Testament the word it is derived from is akouo. The reason we used this word is because God has been constantly speaking and prompting us to listen throughout every single step of setting up this church.

The first word God spoke to someone in this journey happened in 2011 when God told Pastor Humbie to begin praying for the school building behind Redeemer Lutheran Church at 100 Quentin. Fast forward to August 2019, after 8 years of praying for the building, Pastor Humbie heard God tell him to go knock on the door of Redeemer Lutheran Church and “ask for the school building.” Humbie knocked on the door and met Pastor Mike Bailey at Redeemer. From that day on, Mike has been an advocate for Humbie and Akouo Church. Because of that meeting, Akouo has a home in the Redeemer School building.

Akouo Church will be a place where we listen to what God has to say to us. It has gotten us to this point and it will carry us for all of our days.

    What We Believe

    God loves you.

That phrase might be very familiar and comforting to you. Or perhaps, you've never considered what those words really mean.

From the beginning, God intended to show everyone that He is a good Father who could be trusted with every aspect of life — our relationships, careers, even our insecurities. But the opening pages of the Bible reveal that the first humans' mistrusted God's design and went their own way.

We have all made this same deadly choice. God has given us direction for our good, yet we have all rejected Him in our own ways. Making even small decisions that separate us from God is called sin. We all do it, and we'll continue to do so. Sin only leads to brokenness in life and relationships. Even our best attempts to escape brokenness only lead to more pain.

But God loves us so much that He was willing to enter our brokenness with us.

In reading the Bible, we learn that God sent His only son, Jesus, to die so the rest of us could live. Although Jesus did nothing wrong, He died on a cross and paid the debt for our rebellion. And His resurrection from death changed everything.

Because of what Jesus did on our behalf, we have the opportunity to trust God and turn away from our ways of doing life on our own. God is willing to forgive anyone that trusts Him, and He restores our relationship with Him and others.
